Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Park Foundation (KSPF) is expected to award the main construction contract for its Royal Art Complex at King Salman Park in Riyadh by the fourth quarter of 2021.

“The tender for the main construction contract has been issued. The bid submission deadline was scheduled for mid-October 2021. The contract award is expected by mid-December 2021,” a source aware of the project details told Zawya Projects.

The bidders for the main construction contract include Al Bawani, Saudi Constructioneers (Saudico), Al Saad General Contracting, El Seif Engineering Contracting Company, and Nesma & Partners, according to officials from two companies.

The complex will occupy an area of more than 400,000 square metres and include a national theatre with a seating capacity of 2,500; an outdoor theatre with a seating capacity of 8,000; five museums, three cinema halls; four art academies and an educational centre for children, according to the website of Royal Commission for Riyadh City, which is the project’s manager.

Typsa is the design architect and consulting engineer, Killa Design is master planner, Buro Happold is design engineer, Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura is the design consultant and Parsons International is the project management consultant for the complex, according to the source and respective company websites.

The project is slated for completion by the first quarter of 2024, the source said, adding that his estimate of the project cost is $1.2 billion.

In September, Saudi financial news portal Argaam had reported that KSPF has awarded contracts worth 3.85 billion Saudi riyals ($1.03 billion) to local companies to implement parts of the King Salman Park project.

The report, citing the foundation’s official twitter account, said contracts awarded include site preparation works, construction of a number of tunnels and bridges on Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Road and Al Orouba Road, and infrastructure and preparation work for the Royal Arts Complex.

Covering over 16 square kilometres, King Salman Park will be among the biggest city parks worldwide and contribute to improving the Saudi capital’s ranking within the top 100 cities in the world under Vision 2030, according to the Park’s official website.
