Oman Airports announced that passengers willing to check-in any 'irregularly shaped luggage' will be charged a fee. Irregularly shaped luggage or out of gauge baggage (OOGB) not having a single flat will attract charges of either OMR2.5 for OOGB or OMR4 for (Super) S-OOGB.
"Out-of-gauge baggage is baggage that is too large, too light, too heavy, too fragile, does not have at least one flat surface, or can damage or reduce the system capacity," an official statement at the Oman Airports website said.
Oman Airports added that luggage falling out of the required criteria will be processed through a lift and will be accepted at a separate counter. This may also include fragile items such as television or other electronic goods, according to Times of Oman.
Moreover, irregular shaped luggage is either under the minimum dimension of the size limit that is 30cm X 8cm X 7.5 cm and weighs less than 7kg or exceeds the maximum dimension of 100 cm X 75 cm X 60 cm. "Baggage that is more than 100cm long, 60cm height and 75cm wide, or that does not have a single flat surface, will need to be dropped at the oversized baggage counter. Please allow extra time to check-in oversized baggage," the statement added.
The new baggage rules have been introduced for all passengers at MCT (Muscat) and SLL (Salalah) Airports.
