Tehran - Iranian capacity to generate renewable energy will reach 5,000 megawatts by the Iranian year of 1400 (2021), Managing Director of TAVANIR said on Sunday.
Aarash Kordi made the remarks in a speech to the first conference on generating electricity and clean energy from city wastes.
He said that country needs to pay more attention to produce new and renewable energies.
Kordi said that by creating necessary law and regulations, the strategic thought should become more structural.
In this concern, Energy Ministry should begin its work, and by approval of global regulations, such energies will be inseparable part of country's energies.
Managing director of TAVANIR said that current capacity of renewable energy in the country is one percent of total energy consumption and predicted that until year 1400 (2021) capacity to generate renewable energy will reach 5,000 megawatts.
He added that Energy Ministry is trying to make closer the rate of generating electricity from garbage incinerator power plant to the world standard, requiring investment.
Cities with capacity to produce 200 tons garbage a day have ability to commission a garbage incinerator power plant.
He added that now six percent of world electricity is generated from renewable energies and commissioning such power plants can also solve problems of garbage and residue management.
Iran Power Generation transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR) will offer special support for construction of such power plant.
Guaranteed purchasing of generated electricity now is possible by new directive of Energy Ministry, so return of their capital would be guaranteed.
Past year, more than 70 percent of fuel of country's power plants were natural gas, with the lowest pollution, which showed 34 percent growth compared with the preceding year and it is expected this year 80 percent of consumption of fuel for power plants will be natural gas.
