Cairo – A consortium, comprised of Elsewedy Electric Co and The Arab Contractors, has successfully installed the first turbine parts of Tanzania's Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), Egypt's Minister of Housing Assem El-Gazzar said.

This step followed the completion of all civil works of the hydropower station which has nine turbines in total with a capacity of 2,115 megawatts (MW) or 235 MW per turbine, El-Gazzar added in a statement on Wednesday.

The Chairman of The Arab Contractors, Sayed Farouk, said that the project is on track for completion on schedule.

The hydroelectric dam, being built over Rufiji River, is about 1,025 metres long at the summit and 131 metres high. It has a storage capacity of around 34 billion cubic metres of water.
