With inclusive education a main priority in the UAE National Agenda 2021, Ajman Modern School have implemented a unique educational offering for students that need additional learning support.

This is the second year that Ajman Modern School have had an established, dedicated SEN department, and whilst parents and staff continue to support the area, as they have done this year, continued growth and success is expected in the coming years.

Heading up the SEN Department at Ajman Modern School is the passionate, and experienced, Leona Boos. Leona explained why the SEN department is unique in its offering to students within Ajman Modern School.

"I try to make a difference with each lesson that I teach, each word of encouragement that is given and each challenge that is set, because education is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Just because you are struggling doesn't mean you're failing."

Ajman Modern School offers differentiated levels of teaching with hands on resources in smaller teaching groups of students within their SEN department. Meaning all children have a choice of activities to learn, as not all students will learn in the same way.

The school’s strategy within the SEN Department is to set Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant & Time-bound (SMART) achievable goals, something Principal, Will McGuire is particularly pleased with.

"We are very proud of our SEN department and their efforts to support all learners. Support for all students with quality instruction is the cornerstone of what we are about."

"Ms. Leona's classroom space is warm and inviting, a perfect place for students to feel comfortable as they explore and learn new things!"

Having the space and resources to create a dedicated SEN department within the school provides parents with a fantastic option for their children if they do require additional support. It appears to be something that is so far, extremely worthwhile for the local community.
