• More than 85 racers from 30 countries to take part in annual racing competition

This year's edition of Sharjah Championship Week has kicked off today (December 17, 2019) at Khalid Lagoon--starting an adrenaline filled week long series of races featuring the 20th year of the F1H2O World Championship and the 5th year of the UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship--world class powerboat and aquabike racing competitions showcasing the racing prowess of 85 expert racers from 30 countries. The free-to-attend event, which is organized by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) in cooperation with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club (SIMSC), is being held under the Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council.

This year's edition of Sharjah Championship Week is set to witness wider participation and a larger public attendance--affirming the emirate's role as a premier host for world class aqua racing competitions. The races to be featured at the week-long event include the F1H2O World Championship, the flagship international series of single-seater inshore circuit Formula 1 powerboat racing and the UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship, one of the fastest, most spectacular, demanding and entertaining sports on water. Aside from the races, the event will also feature free performances of water bike.

SCTDA's hosting of the event demonstrates its long-standing commitment to cooperate with both the public and private sector in supporting the growth and development of Sharjah's tourism segment. The move is also aimed at promoting the emirate's tourism destinations and attracting more tourists to visit--reinforcing Sharjah's position as an ideal destination for recreational events that create top notch experiences and adventures.
