Manama, Arabian Gulf University: The Students Affairs Deanship at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently held the Student Council elections for the College of Medicine and Medical Science (CMMS) at the University for the academic year 2020-2021.

The elections were done online this year through the Moodle educational platform, electing a male and female student to represent each year, as per the followed elections regulations at the University.

This year's elections witnessed the selection of all the candidates from the first to the fifth year with no competition, while the sixth year witnessed four students competing to reach the Student Council, and the results of the voting resulted in the victory of Fatima Khaled Al Dhiab, with 81 votes, while Jaber Jamal Al Kandari won with 80 votes.

The new Council members include Abdulhadi Mohammed Al Merri and Rawan Abdulhadi Al Salman (first year), Mohammed Abdumuttalib Al Masloom and Sara Saqr Al Balooshi  (second year), Abdulmajeed Abdulla Al Ghamdi and Jumana Mohammed Al Rasbi (third year), Ahmed Jassim Buali and Amina Khalid Ahmed (fourth year), and Faisal Sami Al Sardiya and Jawaher Abdulla Bubshait (fifth year).

On the occasion, Student Affairs Dean at AGU Dr Abdulrahman Yousif Ismael congratulated the students who have won the seats in the Student Council elections. Dr Ismail affirmed that this election experience strengthens students’ personalities, and enables them to present their opinions and ideas in a democratic atmosphere that has fair competition.

The Dean also pointed out that the council, which is represented by a number of students from GCC states, plays a prominent role in strengthening the personalities and leadership abilities of medical students, adding that it also enhances their knowledge, and social and service capabilities.

For his part, Social Supervisor and Head of the Election Committee Mr. Ahmed Al Saie clarified that the competition has taken place in a collegial atmosphere filled with appreciation and brotherly relations.

Mr. Al Saie further praised the cooperation of all candidates and their commitment to the administrative regulations for the elections. He added that the elections went as planned and according to the regulations it is supposed to run by.

It is worth mentioning that the first consultative meeting was held for the new Council members to explain the Council's regulations and the general frameworks for the conduct of work, in addition to the distribution of administrative positions among the members, as the three key administrative positions went to Mr. Al Kandari as Chairman, Mr. Al Sardiya as Deputy Chairman, and Ms. Al Dhiab as the Council Secretary.
