Up to 70 per cent discounts would be offered on as many as 5,000 food products and goods from this Thursday (February 28) until the end of March, to mark the 14th Gulf Consumer Protection Day 2019, the Ministry of Economy in UAE has announced.

The ministry stated that all online shopping websites have been registered in its database in order to monitor and ensure consumer rights, as well as review all the discounts that have been declared, Emarat Al Youm reported. It added that the websites have agreed to safeguard rights of the consumers.

Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department in Ministry of Economy, said that all major selling points and co-operative societies would provide discounts between 30 and 70 per cent on more than 5,000 food products. He pointed out that the concession will be available for an entire month.

Al Nuaimi urged shoppers to contact the consumer protection department to report any fake deals or discounts.

The department will increase its working hours throughout March from 8:00am until midnight to receive any reports that are lodged, he pointed out.
