UAE - The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday reported 1,008 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 882 recoveries. Two deaths were also reported.

Nearly 92,000 new Covid-19 tests were carried out, the ministry added.

The UAE has conducted over 9.13 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The country has recently granted emergency approval to administer the Covid-19 vaccine to frontline workers who are at high risk of contracting the virus. The vaccine, which was found to be safe and effective, is in the last stages of clinical trials in four Arab countries, including the UAE. On Thursday, Abu Dhabi started administering the Covid-19 vaccine to its frontline healthcare.

Meanwhile, the UAE government announced it has resumed issuing entry permits, except for work, starting from September 24. The resumption of issuing visas is within the framework of easing restrictions and strengthening the country's efforts towards supporting recovery plans of the country's economy. However, the issuance of work permits is still on hold at this stage.

However, with a spike in Covid-19 cases in recent days, the ministry has urged the public to follow all preventive guidelines. According to authorities, the country witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases in recent days mainly because of non-compliance to precautionary measures outlined by the country.
