Muscat: The Muscat Municipality has issued a statement to clarify their decision to prevent the entry of bicycles and motorcycles into public parks.

According to the Muscat Municipality, "Bicycles cause risks and disturbance to public comfort and inconvenience the site's visitors. The ban is to avoid its effects on afforestation and damage as a result of the passage of bicycles."

The municipality said in the statement: "Referring to what is being circulated on social media about the procedures to prevent the entry of bicycles of all kinds into the parks and gardens, we would like to clarify that the ban decision includes all parks in Muscat governorate."

The decision was implemented in accordance with local order No. 32/97 on the protection of municipal utilities such as public parks or public beaches and one of such harmful practices is to drive bicycles, motorbikes or motorcycles.

Elsewhere, in order to regulate this aspect within the controls and requirements that serve the public interest and maintain the safety of visitors, it had been opened for small and medium enterprises to invest in these type of activities inside the Qurum Natural Park as an experiment and under the supervision of the Municipality, with all controls set for the investor and the identification of certain paths for bicycles to ensure visitors safety.
