Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Participants of the Global Future Council on International Trade and Investment meeting, held in line with the Third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, discussed the mechanisms of developing long-term policies to ensure designing a proper response to the challenges of digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and economic inequality.

Participants examined the different types of challenges facing international trade and investment sectors, with the aim of deeply- entrenching the main pillars of establishing long-term policies, which should in turn ensure a proper trade response to the challenges of the digital, sustainability and economic transformations. Members of the Council further pinpointed the importance of considering the main causes of these future challenges and suggesting adequate solutions that address such challenges in various fields.

The Global Future Councils also witnessed the meeting of the Global Future Council on Long-term Investing. This meeting aimed to design solutions for facing the increasingly complex and overlapping challenges, and counter short-term thinking driven by business and policy cycles to secure a comprehensive and sustainable future.

Participants advocated the importance of focusing on active investment supervision and cooperation between investors and companies in order to reduce long-term risks including mismanagement, climate change, and technological disruptions. In addition, they called for bridging the gap in funding infrastructure and furnishing the appropriate means required to boost its effectiveness.

Members of the Council tackled the impact of disruptions and changes in the financial markets resulting from short-term planning. They pointed out that such changes can threaten the sustainability of the financial system and the future economic growth. They further stressed the importance of designing long-term solutions for the global challenges to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable future for all, focusing on cooperation between stakeholders and innovators.

The Third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils is held in Dubai, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in cooperation between the UAE Government and the World Economic Forum. The meetings bring together more than 700 of the most relevant and knowledgeable scientists, futurists and experts, grouped in 38 expertise-based, thematic councils that discuss the future of vital sectors and develop practical solutions to challenging issues.
