MANAMA: Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday launched the new Customs Affairs Strategy 2021-2024, during a ceremony to mark World Customs Day.

He congratulated Customs president Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa for winning international trust through his appointment as chairman of the World Customs Organisation.

He expressed thanks and appreciation to the Customs Affairs, calling it to highlight its accomplishments to society.

He said that the Customs Affairs is part of the main pillars, and its affiliates are competent and trustworthy. “I’m looking forward to implementing the new strategy in the coming phase.”

The minister noted that Bahrain has gained a good reputation in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic through measures put in place by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minister.

He said that studies have proven the efficiency of operations to control fast-spreading risks.

“The threat continues to exist as we aren’t isolated from the world.

“There is a success story of how Bahrain dealt with the pandemic, giving us the confidence to achieve goals through well thought-out plans and determination,” he added.

The Customs president hailed the efforts of various sectors in fighting the pandemic, valuing all personnel working at customs ports for their commitment and sacrifices for the nation’s security.

Excellence

He also lauded the minister’s efforts to achieve excellence with available resources.

He hailed the work environment at the Customs Affairs that contributed to winning various awards and recognition.

The new strategy includes three new goals, and follows the previous strategic plan, implemented from 2017 to 2021 with 100 per cent enforcement.

The new strategy and its goals and initiatives were highlighted in a film screened during the ceremony, along with implemented projects.

The minister also honoured outstanding Customs employees and wished them all the best.
