Iraq has restarted nearly 444 public sector projects that have been stalled over the past years due to mismanagement and lack of funds, according to the local media.

A committee formed by the cabinet to tackle faltering projects has identified obstacles facing many of them and managed to get them restarted, the cabinet secretariat said in a statement carried by Aliqtisad News and other Iraqi publications.

“The committee has succeeded in tacking administrative, technical and financial reasons for the suspension of 444 projects...its work has led to the revival of those projects,” the statement said.

The projects, located in various parts of Iraq, cover housing, industry, farming, health, education, tourism and amusement, it added.

Officials said last month Iraq has thousands of stalled projects worth more than $90 billion as a result of corruption, mismanagement and cash shortages.
