MANAMA: Flight EK 839/840 will be Emirates’ first service to and from Bahrain’s new passenger terminal today, the airline’s country manager Hamad Al Ali has said.

Talking about plans and expectation’s from the kingdom’s airport, he told the GDN that Emirates will be deploying 10 airport operations team members to support flights in the new terminal.

“The local ground handling partner will be supporting us with another 60 dedicated team members across all areas of our operations. We are closely working with the airport on dedicated Emirates check-in counters for a more seamless experience for our customers,” he added.

According to Mr Al Ali the number of Emirates check-in counters open will depend on flight loads at the time.

The official also said while the airline does not have a dedicated gate at the terminal for now, however all available stands during phase one of new airport can accommodate both Emirates Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft.

It has also emerged that Hala Bahrain will be Emirates lounge partner in the new terminal.

“We look forward to welcoming our premium passengers into their comfortable, contemporary lounges before they fly to Dubai and beyond.”

Talking about the post-Covid-19 outlook for air travel to and from Bahrain, Mr Al Ali said the airline is seeing travel slowly start to pick up across different parts of its network, and the “double daily operations to Bahrain are no exception”.

“We are operating at very healthy load factors in and out of Bahrain and our forward bookings are also looking very good, all encouraging signs of a gradual return in demand,” he added.

The official said, “Our aim is to maintain an operation that is ahead of the game ensuring high safety and hygiene standards across every customer touchpoint, in addition to providing our customers with flexibility for added reassurance and peace of mind and to instil more confidence in travel.

“We are also watching travel patterns and demand very closely, and adding more flights and upgrading capacity so we can make connecting to the world from Bahrain more accessible for travellers.”
