Iraq's Basra governorate is implementing a number of projects within provincial, federal and petrodollar investment programmes as the host city of the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup scheduled , a planning ministry spokesperson said.
 
The regional football tournament is scheduled to held in the Iraqi economic capital from 24 December 2021 to 7 January 2022.
 
Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi told Zawya Projects that key projects include Al-Zubair integrated water project, a highway project linking the Sports City with Basra International Airport, and a 1,000 cubic metres per hour desalination plant. Additionally, private sector companies are also implementing service projects in the governorate.
 
Al-Hindawi added that Planning minister Khaled Battal Al-Najm underlined the priority given to Basra's infrastructure in the context of the football tournament, especially in the area of potable water supply, during a recent visit to the city.
