Thuraya Telecommunications Co., a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s Al Yah Satellite Communications Co. (Yahsat) has announced a distribution agreement for land, sea and aeronautical broadband which it estimates will generate revenue of $80 million.

Under the agreement, Cobham SATCOM, a Danish satellite and radio communications service provider, will be the main distributor on a non-exclusive basis, of Thuraya Next Generation Broadband Products (NGBP) for a minimum of five years.

In a bourse filing to Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), Yahsat said the agreement builds on the company’s existing partnership with Cobham and is a milestone in the rollout of the Thuraya 4-NGS enabled portfolio.

The five-year term will start when commercial operations of Thuraya 4-NGS are launched, which is expected to be in the second half of 2023.

“Through this partnership, Cobham will drive NGBP sales through its own extensive distribution channels but will also work closely with Thuraya’s broad service partner network,” the statement said.

“The agreement is expected to generate more than US$80 million of potential service revenue to Thuraya.”

Thuraya previously announced a partnership with Cobham to deliver a mobile broadband system as part of the next-generation Thuraya 4-NGS satellite system, and a number of broadband terminals for land, sea and aeronautical applications.
