The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalises the mutual interaction and strengthens the relationship between the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and Daman at a strategic and working level. It focuses on establishing cooperative relations between the pair, with an emphasis on developing academic and cultural exchanges in education, research and other areas.

The MoU is the first step towards ‎enhancing cooperation between the two ‎parties in conducting advanced research and training in emerging fields such as big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI); fields in which the UAEU is playing a leading role through its research and development activities. The UAEU has recently established the Big Data Analytics Center (BIDAC) with the mission to ingrain a sustained impact through ground-breaking big data analytics research and services.

As per the MoU, the two parties will cooperate to develop academic and cultural interchange in education and research. The activities of this cooperation will include joint academic educational programmes (including short-term academic and professional programmes); joint academic research and development activities; organisation of joint seminars, workshops and conferences; exchange of academic materials, and other information which will be made available by both parties; and staff development projects.

Prof. Ahmed Murad, Associate Provost for Research, has signed this agreement as UAE University representer said:

“Daman is the leading health insurance company in the country. By signing the MoU, the UAEU and Daman will work toward a common goal of developing AI and data analytics technology applicable to the health insurance industry through joint research and development projects. The UAEU is blessed to have world-known researchers in the field of data analytics with fabulous track records of achievements. It's about time to put these achievements into practice and benefit the government and the industry sectors.”

Mr. Rashed Alneyadi, Information Technology Executive Director at National Health Insurance Company – Daman, said:

The UAEU is the ideal partner for Daman to collaborate with as they share our passion for advance technologies and cultivating smart systems that benefit their businesses and customers. The future success and sustainability of the insurance industry depends on young and highly educated local talent with the required knowledgeable in AI and big data analytics and the UAEU is making great strides in this area.”

 Prof. Nazar Zaki, Director of the Big Data Analytics Center, UAEU, said:

“One of the main objectives of establishing the Big Data Analytics Center, the leader in the field, is to boost the government and private sector performance and the rate of productivity. The center is committed to delivering leading and excellent research contributions to Big Data Analytics in many fields, including healthcare and health insurance. This MoU will promote interactions between industry practitioners and academic researchers and will contribute to developing and fostering mutually beneficial relationships between the Big Data Analytics Center and Daman, while also strengthening the association between the two parties.”
