The state-owned Iraqi Republic Railways (IRR) would be the implementing agency for the Baghdad Elevated Train (BET), the transport ministry's media director told Zawya Projects.

Faleh Hadi quoted the Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussain Bandar Al-Shibli, who made the announcement, as saying that IRR has the engineering and technical capabilities to oversee the project's implementation.

BET's project office at the IRR headquarters was inaugurated by the minister.

Hadi said initial cost estimates for the project, which would be executed by France's Alstom and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction, is about $2.5 billion.
