Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian Chemical Industries (Kima) has completed nearly 96% of KIMA 2 facility for ammonia and urea production in the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan.

The facility is due completion by the end of June 2019, Kima said in a statement to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX).

The trial operation of KIMA 2 will commence next July, the company added.

The facility is expected to produce 1,200 tonnes of ammonia and 1,575 tonnes of urea and boost KIMA 1’s production of nitrate fertilisers to 660 tonnes per day from 300 tonnes per day, according to the statement.

KIMA 2 is being qualified to operate with natural gas instead of electricity, the company indicated.

Almost 80% of the new facility has begun operation, Kima said, pointing out that it will be fully operated by the end of next June to produce 1,220 tonnes of ammonia a day.
