Dubai, UAE – IEC Telecom, one of the leading global providers of managed network communication solutions, along with Inmarsat, a pioneer of mobile satellite communications today announced that they would host a joint panel discussion at Seatrade Maritime Middle East on October 29th, 2018 from 12 noon – 1.30 pm at Breakout Theatre, Hall 6 of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), Dubai.
Titled ‘Navigating Connectivity While at Sea’ and led by industry experts Drew Brandy, Senior Vice President Market Strategy, Inmarsat Maritime; Nabil Ben Soussia, Managing Director, IEC Telecom Middle East and Gürkan Büyüktelli, Marine Superintendent, Mercan Group, the panel discussion will cover the importance of connectivity in order to be able to retain crew and drive overall business productivity.

Drawing on key findings of a new Royal Holloway University London study commissioned by Inmarsat and the Sailors’ Society, Mr. Brandy said, “By putting researchers on working ships and talking to seafarers during their daily lives, our unique study has teased out how the availability of communications tools affects crew behaviour and, by extension, self-esteem, well-being and even productivity.”

Maritime connectivity is an area that is ripe for development and expansion. On a daily basis, thousands of merchant ships cross the oceans with millions of cargo containers in tow, signaling the need for fast and efficient communications aboard vessels and between land and sea. While the ability to connect is becoming a default setting and a prerequisite to function in daily life, it is also directly responsible for the business efficiency and productivity. And therefore, it is essential that all segments, including bulk carriers, container ships, cargo, tankers, FPSOs, fishing vessels, cruise ships and yachting and leisure are covered.
