Hotels in Abu Dhabi to include kosher food on menus

The UAE Capital has asked all hotels to start including kosher food on their menus.

The latest development is part of the friendly gestures shown by Abu Dhabi ever since the normalisation of relations between the UAE and Israel, which was announced on August 13.

Local authorities now may be expecting Jewish and Arab visitors from Israel to the Capital city.

This will also provide an opportunity for citizens and residents in the UAE to try new food items.

Accordingly, the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, in a circular to the hotel managers, stressed that local authorities are committed to ensuring "certain foods" are available for all visitors and tourists in the Capital.

"All hotel establishments are advised to include kosher food options on room service menus and at all food and beverage outlets in their establishments," the DCT - Abu Dhabi said in the circular.

In further instructions, the circular stated that all the hotel establishments should seek kosher certification for handling kosher meals; designate an area in all their kitchens for preparation of kosher food; and label kosher menu items with a clear and visible label/reference with a recognisable symbol that denotes 'Kosher', as per acquired certification.

The UAE and Israel will sign their historic peace deal known as the Abraham Accord in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, September 15.
