Cairo, Egypt: Elsewedy Technical Academy (STA) welcomed Switzerland’s Federal Councillor Mr. Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education, and Research and his accompanying delegation to discuss the success of the STA model of vocational education and training in Egypt, potential partnerships and ongoing cooperation. The meeting was attended by Mr. Paul Garnier Ambassador, Head of Mission Embassy of Switzerland in Egypt, and his accompanying key business delegates, as well as Ms. Hanan El Rihany, CEO of STA.

On the sidelines of the visit, Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, Chairman of Elsewedy Electric Foundation commented: “Quality education is foundational to the successful development and growth of any country and its citizenry. Our cooperation with Switzerland directly contributes to the excellent educational programs STA students receive right here in Egypt. Together, we are educating a pool of professional members of the technical community who will play an active role in the labor market.”

This visit highlights the importance of Switzerland’s contribution to technical education and vocational training in Egypt through in technical cooperation with STA as a means to bolster the economic inclusion of young women and men through improved access to high quality dual education and training in Egypt.

The collaboration began in September 2018 with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). It was then implemented by GFA-Consulting Group, one of the largest German companies in the field of development cooperation to modernize the 3-year “Industrial Electronics Technician” program and enrich it with content from German training program to offer STA students higher quality education and training.

STA aims to extend the Egypt-Switzerland bilateral relations in technical education and training to enhance vocational training, skills standards, employability, and job market access for youth in Egypt.
