KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday announced 704 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 98,528, according to a statement from the health ministry’s official spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad carried by Kuwait News Agency.

The spokesman also announced five more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 580.

Giving a break-up of area-wise cases, the spokesman said that 195 new infections were detected in Hawalli Governorate, 165 in Ahmadi, 134 in Farwaniya, 111 in Asimah, and 99 in Jahra.

There are currently 9,172 active cases out of which 101 are in intensive care units, according to the spokesman.

The number of coronavirus tests conducted over the past 24 hours reached 5,928, raising the total number of COVID-19 examinations done so far in the country to 701,484.

Earlier in the day, the health ministry said a total of 865 more patients had completely recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 88,776.
