His Majesty King Hamad has ratified and promulgated a law regulating registration of births and deaths which applies to those that take place in the kingdom and to Bahraini citizens in case they are abroad.

Under the law, births occurring inside the kingdom shall be notified within 15 days from the date of birth and within 60 days from the date, of birth taking place abroad.

Deaths occurring inside the kingdom shall be reported within 72 hours from the time of death and within 60 days from the date of death taking place abroad.

A prison sentence or a fine not exceeding BD500, or both, shall be imposed on anyone who maliciously reports a birth or death, deliberately provides inaccurate information or makes any changes to data indicated in the register without a final court ruling.
