RIYADH — The new airport serving the $500 billion futuristic mega-city Neom has been classified as a commercial hub by the aviation industry body International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airport’s code registered with the International Civil Aviation Organization is OENN.

The airport will operate flights between Neom, located along the Red Sea coast, and Riyadh.

It has a 3,757-meter-long runway at 151 degrees on one side and 331 degrees on the other.

On January 10 this year, the airport welcomed two flights by Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia).

The maiden flights, carrying 130 employees of Neom landed at the newly-built airport.

The employees were transported on board the two Airbus A320 flights of Saudia.

Neom Bay Airport is the latest addition to the Kingdom's 35 hubs.
