MANAMA: Bahrain International Airport’s new passenger terminal’s ‘operational readiness’ has been reviewed as part of the lead-up to its official opening.

The Airlines Operation Committee (AOC) held a meeting yesterday to discuss construction progress and developments, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) revealed.

Attendees were briefed on key topics including the ‘Operational Readiness Airport Transfer’ (ORAT) processes, aviation security, fire prevention guidelines, airside operations, commercial developments, ICT updates, and Hala Bahrain’s upgraded services at the new facility.

Comprised of airline station managers representing the interests of their respective companies, the AOC is tasked with promoting co-operation among BAC and its partners. It is involved in all areas pertaining to airport operations and maintains an active presence in renovation and construction projects.

BAC chief executive Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah is confident that the new terminal will help attract many more visitors to the kingdom.

“With its state-of the-art facilities and improved services, the new terminal will play a key role in helping airlines to attract passengers and deliver an enhanced travel experience,” he said.

“The successful launch of the new Passenger Terminal requires the strong support of airlines and other stakeholders. As we prepare to transfer operations to the new facility, our goal is to make sure that everyone involved in this important national project understands what is required of them.

“BAC, its partners, and airport stakeholders are taking steady and coordinated steps to ensure all ORAT preparations and activities are implemented as planned.”

He also added that the continued briefings to their partners and members of the AOC play a vital role in the process by providing a platform to exchange information and discuss crucial topics.

The second and final construction phase of the new passenger terminal was recently inaugurated. The project milestone will see the eastern section of the current terminal demolished to make way for the western part of the new facility, which is being built adjacent.
