Dubai, UAE: talabat, the region’s leading food delivery and q-commerce platform, devoted its app towards giving back during Ramadan and tied up with several trusted local and international charities across the UAE to offer customers the chance to donate to a number of different causes safely through the app. Through its various campaigns in the UAE, talabat facilitated the donation of 379,695 meals during the holy month, having raised over AED 1million thanks to customer in-app donations.

The World Food Programme

The successful region-wide partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) resulted in an all year round dedicated Virtual Charity on the talabat app to deliver food assistance to underprivileged communities throughout the Middle East, such as Syria and Yemen. Customers were able to donate to WFP during the month of Ramadan directly through the app - where talabat facilitated the donation of 199,669 meals during Ramadan - or by ordering meals on the four consecutive Sundays of Ramadan during iftar time, in which talabat donated a total of 83,174 meals as part of its #AlwaysThere initiative where they pledged to donate the value of a meal for every order made to WFP.

Ramadan Heroes

talabat joined forces with Dubai Culture, Emirates Red Crescent and UAE Food Bank to relaunch the second edition of the “Ramadan Heroes'' campaign ahead of Ramadan, facilitating the donation of 76,652 meals during the month and surpassing last year’s 50,000 meals donated through the campaign’s first edition. This initiative invited community members to contribute by purchasing Iftar meals or selecting Ramadan boxes of staple food supplies through the talabat app, which were safely delivered to beneficiaries’ houses across the Emirates in the absence of free Ramadan tents as part of the UAE’s preventive measures to preserve the health and safety of community members.

Loyalty program donations through talabat Rewards

Customers redeemed the value of 12,763,000 talabat Rewards points this Ramadan, the equivalent of  31,908 AED, donating a total of 20,200 meals toward Dubai Cares school meal projects, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), to support school-aged children in the Middle East, as well as help refugees in the MENA region with basic food supplies through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The talabat Rewards feature was launched last December to allow customers to utilise their in-app points for a good cause throughout the year.

Additionally, thanks to talabat customers’ generosity and benevolence, AED 127,800 rider tips were raised across the Emirates this Ramadan, reflecting the community’s appreciation for the riders’ hard work and efforts. 100% of tips raised go directly to riders.

Jérémy Doutté, Vice President UAE at talabat commented “Year on year, our customers continue to play an incredibly important role in supporting the community through the talabat app, by donating meals, redeeming points and even tipping our riders to express their appreciation. This year, we offered our customers several causes to give them the opportunity to donate to different charities,  harnessing technology for noble causes and facilitating philanthropy.”

He added: “It has been heartening to see that our joint efforts with our trusted partners yielded such great results, these partnerships reflect the greater causes we stand for and our continuous efforts to give back to the communities we operate in and beyond. It is also heartwarming to see that our customers continue to show our riders appreciation with almost AED 127,800 tips received through the app. Our riders play an important role in the community and are an integral part of our business, bringing us closer to our customers everyday and every minute.”

Consumers can now download talabat on the iOS App Store or Google Play Store to donate to a range of causes.
