Dubai - More than 6 thousand people from the United Arab Emirates and the world participated in the session "Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Technology" by Sebastian Thrun, Chairman and Co-Founder of Udacity and Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University and Member of Dubai Future Academy’s Board of Trustees.

Organized by One Million Arab Coders (OMAC), an initiative of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), the session was part of “Coders Talk”, a series of webinars that aims to shed the light on the latest global trends in the areas of technology and programming with the participation of group of global experts.

During the session, Thrun emphasized that computing technology has made a quantum leap during the past years as a result of the rapid pace of employing artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions in the region and the world, with the aim of changing the lives of members of society for the better.

Sebastian Thrun stressed the importance of the participants in OMAC benefiting from the experiences and skills they acquired in the field of programming, to enhance their ability to make a positive impact in their societies, through employing programming tools to develop their ideas and projects and apply them in a real-world setting.

He said that countries around the world are going through an important stage in transitioning towards adopting future technology, especially in light of the great challenges posed by the outbreak of COVID-19. The world finds itself for the first time facing a common challenge, which requires benefiting from the lessons learned by strengthening efforts and partnerships to build a better and more sustainable world.

He continued on stressing that the world is witnessing a noticeable trend in relying more on data and artificial intelligence, especially in the field of medicine and health, as diagnostic systems based on machine learning technology have become more precise than doctors in almost all areas of diagnosis.

Abdulaziz AlJaziri, Deputy CEO and COO of DFF, stressed that disseminating knowledge and exchanging experiences in various technological and future sectors represents one of the most imperative goals of the Foundation’s strategy during the coming period, in light of the acceleration of global trends to rely on specialized skills based on the techniques of the fourth industrial revolution such as programming, artificial intelligence and triple printing dimensions and others.

He added: “OMAC, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, succeeded in qualifying a new generation and young Arab programmers around the world, and provided an opportunity for them to acquire programming skills and ability to transform their ideas into innovative projects that employ technology to serve society.”

Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, the One Million Arab Coders initiative seeks to train one million young Arabs in computer programming, in order to empower and equip them with the technological tools and expertise to face the challenges of the future.  The initiative further provides youth with opportunities to spearhead the development of their communities, fills the digital literacy gap and bridges Arab youth with the job market.
