Sharjah: The 47th Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show, the largest and longest running event of its kind, was once again a resounding success. Visitor attendance for the latest edition was the highest ever in the 26-year history of the event, according to preliminary figures by Expo Centre Sharjah.

The five-day event, which concluded on October 5, attracted 66,800 visitors, an increase of 6.83% compared to the previous edition, which drew nearly 62,000 visitors.

The bi-annual event also witnessed a remarkable participation of more than 500 local and international exhibitors, with top jewelers and watchmakers from the industry, showcasing the season’s most exquisite and intricately crafted jewellery creations and luxurious watches from around the world.

On the closing day of the event, Expo Centre Sharjah signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ALM Brazil Trading, which represented the Brazilian pavilion for the first-time at the event.

The MoU stipulated that a special pavilion for Brazilian jewellers will be allocated during the next two editions during 2020. The pavilion will bring together more than 12 Brazil’s top jewellers and leading brands.

Gateway for new markets

Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, stressed that the show successfully concluded with spectacular success, attracting new countries to the already large number of participants.

“Fortunately, the exhibition has what it takes to be an exceptional jewellery hub in the region and the world, including a strategic location, a conducive environment and an easy access to nearby markets let alone the wise vision of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah”, Al Midfa said.

The CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah highlighted that the Sharjah-Brazil agreement will open up new doors to the markets of the South-American continent. This is what drives us to further intensify our efforts in the coming editions to attract other countries from new continents and to make the exhibition the largest platform not only in the region but also in the world, bringing together some of the major manufacturers of gold and jewellery, Al Midfa added.

Facilities to exhibitors

Marlucia Martire, CEO of ALM Brazil Trading Company, expressed her satisfaction with the agreement saying: The great success that we achieved through our participation, featuring Brazilian companies and a huge turnout of visitors to our booth, , was the reason behind signing the agreement.

This is in addition to the facilities provided to exhibitors by Expo Centre Sharjah and the exhibition's leading position and the perfect opportunity we get to showcase Brazilian brands in the regional market, especially the Gulf and the UAE.

Stimulating vital sectors

Sultan Shattaf, Director of Sales and Marketing, Expo Centre Sharjah, thanked all partners and sponsors who contributed to the success of the exhibition, which has inspired many other vital business sectors associated with luxury products and goods in Sharjah.

He also lauded all efforts made to support the exhibition and helped bring about quality achievements that enhanced the reputation of the show as one of the most important events in the field of watches and jewellery.

Since its inception 26 years ago, the Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show has grown to become an exceptional global platform, being the first in the world to be held twice a year.

Stretching over an area of 30,000 square metres, the event has become a top and preferred destination for jewellery aficionados and fashion magpies, where it puts on display the latest and most stunning collection of gems, jewellery and watches.
