Sharjah:

The Researchers Platform initiative participated in the eighth edition of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) 2019, which concluded yesterday (Thursday) at Expo Centre Sharjah. The Researchers Platform’s pavilion saw an array of activities taking place during the second day of the event, showcasing the latest government communication and university seminar and research papers and publications.

Launched by the International Government Communication Centre (IGCC) at the eighth edition of IGCF 2019, the platform showcased the winners of the previous editions of the Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA). These included the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the winner of the Best Practices in Government Communication; Directorate Of Town Planning and Survey (DTPS), winner of Best Government Website; Pink Caravan (PC), winner of Best Practices in Social Responsibility; and Ahmed Khalfan Salem Al Wali and Faisal Mohammed Abdullah Al Naqbi, winners of Best Youth Initiative in Government Communication. The Researchers Platform also hosted a presentation on the Best Government Communication Campaign, delivered by Dr Hosam Salama.

The Researchers Platform’s programme featured a review of the book Foresight Analysis on Key Future Jobs by 2030 and their Impact on the Future of Law Enforcement Jobs, written by Major Anwar Al Nimr of Dubai Police. It also showcased three graduation projects – ‘Ambassadors of Creativity and Positivity’ by Alanood Alshehhi and Shaikha Alshamsi from the University of Sharjah (UoS); ‘Notable Examples of Spreading Tolerance, Dialogue, and Peaceful Coexistence’ by Mona Khaled Mohammed, Aya Khaled Mohammed, Chaima Zouggar and Selma Zouggar from Al Qasimia University; and finally ‘Zayed in the Eyes of History’ by Noor Shaker and Salman Albelooshi from the City University College of Ajman.

Four seminar and research papers were discussed at the pavilion, namely: ‘Cooperation between Government Corporations and Universities to Develop Curricula’ by Dr Khayrat Ayad from UoS; ‘Usage of Governmental Digital Platforms to Promote Positive Behavioural Values: Sharjah Education Council Case Study’ by Dr Engy Khalil from UoS; ‘The Role of Governmental Communication in Achieving Audience Interaction: A Case Study on Governmental Institutions’ by Dr Asmaa Abobaker Al Sideeq from the University of Modern Science; ‘Values of Tolerance in UAE Official Social Media Governments’ Accounts: “Instagram” as a Model’ by Dr Shereen Ali Mousa from Ajman University.

The programme also featured two Government Communication and Social Media Professional Diploma Graduation Projects – ‘My Creative Child’ by Asma Al Suwaidi and Salha Al Ketbi from the Social Services Department, and ‘Ammarnaha’ by Noura Hassan from the Directorate of Public Works.

The activities also covered two Masters’ theses, with the first being themed ‘Communication Strategies Used in Managing the Organisation's Reputation:  Dubai Police Case Study’, written by Amani Ahmed from UoS, while the second thesis was titled ‘The Role of Social Marketing in Rationalisation of Consumption Awareness: A Study on Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority’, written by Abeer Alshawi from UoS.

The Researchers Platform offered space and opportunity for the UAE’s media and communication university students to discuss their Master's theses and graduation projects that covered various aspects of government communication, and also highlighted graduation projects by Government Communication and Social Media Professional Diploma students.

The two-day IGCF was organised by the International Government Communication Centre, a subsidiary of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), under the theme ‘Behavioural Change Towards Human Development’. It hosted top local and international government communication experts and professionals at Expo Centre Sharjah.
