UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Dominic Raab, has extended his gratitude to the Egyptian government for their help in repatriating more than 13,000 British tourists over the last two weeks.

In a statement by the British Embassy to Cairo on Wednesday, Ambassador Sir Geoffrey Adams also expressed his gratitude to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi for his message of good wishes sent to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who currently remains in intensive care at a London hospital following his positive coronavirus diagnosis.

The Egyptian authorities helped in arranging several flights as part of efforts to repatriate British citizens stranded in the country following the suspension of all international flights in March. The flight suspensions were enforced on all airports in Egypt as part of state efforts to control the further spread of the coronavirus.

In a letter addressed to Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Raab said that the excellent cooperation between both countries in recent weeks illustrated the kind of partnership agreed upon between Al-Sisi and Johnson when they met in London in January 2020, the statement concluded.
