With more countries easing coronavirus restrictions, UAE-based Etihad Airways has expanded its passenger capacity to Europe and Asia.

The UAE’s flag carrier said on Tuesday it will operate additional special flights to 19 destinations starting tomorrow, May 19 to June 15, 2020. The airline will also allow a direct transit connection to and from London via Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The new cities to be served include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belgrade, Brussels, Dublin, Geneva, Frankfurt, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, Melbourne, Milan, Paris, Seoul Incheon, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo Narita, Toronto and Zurich.

The airline has been operating special airline services to select destinations worldwide.

The services have facilitated the return of stranded visitors, as well as expatriates who wanted to go home during the coronavirus pandemic.

In some instances, the special flights have enabled the airline to repatriate UAE citizens.

On March 19, the UAE suspended the entry of foreign nationals, including expatriates, into the country.

The restriction has recently been eased, with the government announcing that UAE residents stuck abroad will be able to fly back home starting June 1.
