A tropical cyclone is likely to hit the UAE, particularly Dubai, this weekend.

The Dubai Municipality's weather forecast system has predicted that the impact of the tropical cyclone Mekunu, which is heading towards Oman, will be felt in the UAE as well.

The municipality said a low pressure zone has been forming in the Arabian Sea since Saturday, and has developed into a tropical cyclone.

Earlier today, Oman's meteorology department had said in a statement that a low pressure weather system had caused a tropical cyclone over the Arabian Sea, and was expected to intensify in the coming days.

According to data from Dubai Municipality, Oman will get affected by the cyclone starting Thursday, May 24.

The UAE may witness rain and thunder starting Friday evening, along with wind speeds of more than 50km/hr. The weather is likely to clear up only by Saturday evening, and clear skies have been forecast for Sunday.
