Dubai:  A wide-ranging panel debate organised by the global research and consultancy firm Oxford Business Group (OBG) will take place on March 19 at Nasdaq Dubai MarketSite, located in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Titled “Dubai: Maintaining the Competitive Edge”, the event is being held to launch OBG’s latest publication on the emirate’s economic development and investment opportunities, The Report: Dubai 2019.

Proceedings will begin with the ringing of the Nasdaq Dubai market-opening bell at 10:00am, after which Oliver Cornock, OBG’s Editor-in-Chief, will welcome guests with a keynote speech.

The panel will be made up of high-ranking industry representatives, including: Bernd Van Linder, CEO, Commercial Bank of Dubai; Randa Bessiso, Director, Manchester Business School Middle East; Rola Abu Manneh, CEO, Standard Chartered UAE; Hani Ashkar, Middle East Senior Partner, PwC Middle East; and Gergi Abboud, Senior Vice President and General Manager, SAP Middle East South.

The debate will consider the steps Dubai has taken to maintain its comparative advantage as competition for investment increases across the region. Topics expected to be on the agenda include the key role that the emirate’s free trade zones are playing in supporting new growth, with Jebel Ali Port and the emerging financial hub at the Dubai International Financial Centre both likely to be areas of interest.

The importance of ensuring that economic growth is sustainable beyond Expo 2020 is another topical issue expected to be discussed. The debate will also shine a spotlight on the key sectors of the UAE’s economy driving economic diversity, which include tourism, logistics, manufacturing and services.

Many of the items that the panel will be debating are explored in detail in The Report: Dubai 2019. OBG’s new publication marks the culmination of more than 12 months of field research by a team of analysts from the Group. The publication assesses trends and developments across the emirate, including those in macroeconomics, infrastructure, banking and others.

The Report: Dubai 2019 has been produced by OBG in partnership with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and industry and PwC. It will be available online and in print.

Nasdaq Dubai and OBG agreed last year to collaborate to bring high quality financial intelligence and economic analysis to investors and the business community.
