Thousands of UAE residents, including businesses in various sectors, are expected to get a discount on their cooling bills this summer.

Emirates District Cooling (Emicool), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dubai Investments, has announced a seven percent discount on customers’ bills for the next three months across all sectors.

The discount is applicable to the company’s customers in the commercial, residential and industrial categories and is in line with the wider government efforts to mitigate the financial fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our current initiative is a translation of the directives of the government and is re-introduced with the aim of supporting companies, residents and the business sectors, enhance financial liquidity and mitigate the effects of the current economic situation,” said Dr Adib Moubadder, CEO of Emicool.

The UAE government has rolled out a series of initiatives, including economic stimulus packages, to help alleviate the plight of companies in the country who have been impacted by the outbreak.

Customers to benefit

The company, which runs operational plants with capacity in excess of 330,800 RT, serves thousands of customers in the UAE, including those located in the Green Community Development, Investments Park and Dubai Motor City.

In a statement to the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), it said the seven percent discount will be applied to the customers’ “declared load” for three months, from August to October 2020.

“With the current total operating capacity of 355,00 RT, the second phase of the stimulus package will be applicable for customers falling under identified concession areas among Emicool’s portfolio,” the firm said.

The company had earlier won a contract to supply district cooling system to the Expo Dubai event, particularly the Expo Village, Dubai South Mall and the new conference and exhibition centre at the site.
