During Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, Daan Roosegaarde, Founder, Studio Roosegaarde, delivered a keynote address to a session entitled (Connecting People and Technology in Smart Cities). He presented several captivating video clips spotlighting the way of envisioning the future.

Mr Ross confirmed that humans were technology feeders. He narrated key skills that humans ought to have: creativity, critical thinking and solution of complex problems. He anticipated that drivers and police stations would disappear with the spread of technology and autonomous vehicles. He stressed the role of technology in providing clean air, water and energy.

“Dubai has become part of the most sustainable cities in these areas. In my home country, the Netherland, we live under the sea level. Human imagination had created a device to measure the sea level, and we conducted drills of virtual floods which enabled us to overcome this dilemma,” he noted.

“An invented broom placed on the top of a residential tower can pump out contaminated air and inject fresh air instead. In short, technology can purify our lives. Having a broom is not the ultimate solution, rather it is people who have a role to play. They contaminate the air for free and have it purified at a very high cost.

“Technology proved that carbon pressure can turn into diamond; which is a welcoming news. Technology has converted a cycling track in Holland into an illuminated track at night, thanks to the solar power. We have to unleash our imagination such that technology turns to be friendly for both the environment and humans,” he concluded.
