Riyadh – The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced the launch of a new shipping line for the coastal transportation of container ships across the Red Sea.
The new line was launched across Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port (KAP) at Rabigh via the world's leading container shipping company, Maersk, where regular trips will be carried out on a weekly basis, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
Year-to-date (YTD), Mawani has launched three transcontinental shipping lines, capturing the robustness of the Saudi economy and the kingdom's solid supply chains even though amid the prevailing global economic circumstances.
The achievement will contribute to linking the kingdom’s ports with its international peers, attracting major international shipping lines in the realisation of the GCC state’s strategic plans and objectives to bolster its position in the investment and logistics fields and increase national non-oil exports.
The coastal transportation service will start from Jeddah Islamic Port, then Jordan’s Port of Aqaba, KAP, passing through Jeddah Islamic Port, Egypt’s Port of Sokhna, to land in Jeddah Islamic Port.
It is worth pinpointing that in April, Mawani signed the largest-ever contract with a single entity in the kingdom as it agreed with the Saudi Global Ports (SGP) to build and operate container terminals at the King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, with more than SAR 7 billion worth of investments.
