DUBAI: As Dubai prepares to celebrate the New Year with a range of cultural and entertainment shows, the city has attracted some of the world’s biggest sports stars to see in 2020.

Juventus and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo is currently holidaying in the emirate with his family. The 2019 Serie A Player of the Year posted a picture on Instagram of him and his family posing with Santa Claus on a beach in Dubai.

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who has won 16 grand slam singles titles and is ranked No.2 in the world is also holidaying in Dubai and met up with Ronaldo for a gym session in the city.
Instagram and Twitter posts of the work out have drawn huge interest from followers around the world.

Ronaldo has spent plenty of time in Dubai in the past, and had an extended New Year holiday there with his family last year.

He posted a picture of his meeting with the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed. He also posted a video of his helicopter ride across the city and a family photograph with Burj Al-Arab’s New Year fireworks in the background.

Two other star footballers who are in Dubai to celebrate the New Year are Real Madrid teammates Dani Carvajal and Karim Benzema.

Pictures of their Dubai vacation posted on Instagram showed Benzema on a jet ski with the Dubai skyline in the background and Carvajal and his partner posing against the backdrop of the Burj Al-Arab.

Dubai is the fourth most visited city globally, according to Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index (GDCI) 2019, and is also considered by many to be one of the world’s best New Year’s eve holiday destinations.
