As part of the initiative "Relatives of the deceased", launched under the aegis of Dubai's Executive Council, the Community Development Authority will be providing funeral grievingtents to Emirati citizens of Dubai, free-of-charge.

These tents will be funded by the government as a way to bolster communal ties and financial support to residents of the emirate within the "Community Builders" team.

Community builders are comprised of 10 authorities, including the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa); the Dubai Health Authority (Seha); Dubai Police; the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA); Dubai Municipality (DM); the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA); Dubai Civil Defence; the Community Development Authority (CDA); the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS); and the Ministry of Health and Community Prevention (Mohap).

Rising costs of funeral services prompted the launch of the new service.

Such initiatives reinforce the values of social solidarity and communal well-being.

These values are part and parcel of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as well as the instructions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

The steps to avail of the service are straightforward, as those who wish to avail of the service can contact the RTA on the number 8009090.

Relatives of the deceased will be put in contact with the CDA who will liaise with other government bodies to arrange the tents. The RTA will also place up to 10 signs directing the grieved to the proper areas.

The RTA will also extend temporary electricity lines, as well as set up water tanks, throughout the grieving period. Civil Defence will undertake to ensure the proper compliance of the tents with fire-safety regulations.

Nearly 600 Emirati citizens had died in 2017, authorities revealed.
