MOSCOW - Russia and Sudan are eager to further joint efforts on defence technology and other domains, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

During talks at the Kremlin with his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir, Putin said there were "good opportunities" for the two nations to develop ties on a "wide range of sectors, including defense technology."

In regards to trade, he pointed out significant growth between the two, pointing out that Sudan has up to date imported around 1.5 million tonnes of Russian wheat.

For his part, the Sudanese president praised what he called "encouraging shifts" in cooperation on defense technology.

He revealed that Khartoum is currently hosting "many Russian specialists" tasked with the development of Sudan's military capabilities, an endeavour which his Russian counterpart ensured would continue.
