Amman – According to figures released by Airport International Group, Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed 1,814,157 passengers during Q1 of 2018, marking a significant increase of 8.5% in year-to-date passenger (PAX) numbers as compared to the same period last year. QAIA also witnessed 16,609 aircraft movements (ACM) and handled 24,690 tons of cargo throughout the first quarter, marking a 1.8% decrease and 8.8% increase, respectively.

During the month of March, the Airport registered a total of 646,579 passengers, which indicates a substantial 13.3% rise from March 2017 and the third monthly passenger record to be broken. Meanwhile, ACM settled at 5,854 movements with a minor 0.6% decrease, while cargo totaled 9,124 tons, affecting a 7.2% growth during the same month.

During Q1, the most popular destinations in terms of passenger numbers were Dubai, Cairo, Jeddah, Doha and Kuwait, while overall positive growth can be attributed to Cairo, Istanbul, Doha, Kuwait and Baghdad.

“It is great to see the first quarter end on a high note, particularly since we have, once again, broken our monthly passenger record for the third time this year,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger. “With the summer weather beckoning visitors from around the world, and the holy month of Ramadan fast approaching, we look forward to further progress in the coming months.”
