Doha: Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC) is continuing to provide career and academic guidance programs virtually, giving students the opportunity to learn about the requirements of different professions from the safety of their homes, in light of the precautionary restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this context, QCDC is organizing a new online edition of “My Career - My Future” program for this year. Targeting high school students, the program consists of six interviews streamed live via Instagram, with the participation of people from different professions and disciplines. During the sessions, each guest will elaborate on their profession and academic background before taking questions from participating students.

Mr. Shaheen Hamad Al-Sulaiti, Senior Career Programs and Services Officer, QCDC, said: “In this program, we focus on the professions in which the country needs to increase the number of employees in the future. We therefore host people from various professions, specializations, and sectors – such as media, health, energy, industry, social work, and technology entrepreneurship. We hope that the interviews encourage students to explore these specializations and pursue them to fill future vacancies in Qatar.”

From the media field, interviewees are director Shoug Shaheen and broadcaster and reporter Abdulrahman Saleh al-Ashqar, from Al-Kass Sports Channels. The program will also host resident doctor in the Department of Internal Medicine at McGill University, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Abdulmalik, to talk about his experience in the medical field. Additionally, on the energy and industry sector, Ghaffan Faraj Al Abdullah will share with the students his experience as a Safety and Health Officer at Qatargas, and Malika Al Shraim, Head of Public Relations and Communications at Katara Cultural Village, will tackle business management in the tourism sector. Regarding the field of social work, Nayef Al-Shahrani will talk about his experience as the Head of the TAMM Volunteer Network program, Nama. The technology entrepreneurship sector will be addressed by Saleh Al-Safran, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Subol Products Design, and Abdulrahman Saleh Khamis, Founder and CEO, Thakaa Technologies.

On the importance of these interviews, Mr. Al-Sulaiti explains: “They introduce students to the actual experience of the speakers from various professional fields, and this enables students to discover these professions, learn about the requirements, and as correct any misconceptions they may have about them. Students will discover the nature of these professions by listening to the guest speakers’ personal experiences and having the opportunity to ask questions.”

Interviews will be streamed live via Instagram every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from June 14 until June 23, 2021, at 1.00 pm. Participation can be done through QCDC’s official Instagram account, @QCDCQatar.
