Ann Arbor, Michigan Ross: STC, partnering with  Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, earned a top human resources management award during the Arabian Society for Human Resource Management (ASHRM) International Conference in Dubai. Ahmed M. Alghamdi, STC’s Vice President, People, accepted the award for the best talent management program in the Arabian Gulf Region at the ASHRM event. Michigan Ross served as a partner with STC to develop their customized executive development program known as the High Potential (HiPo) Leadership Program. This program applies a variety of learning approaches including coaching, experiential executive education sessions and exposure to outside companies and speakers as well as action-based-learning projects.

Michigan Ross Executive Education, in close cooperation with STC, co-created the curriculum for the HiPo Leadership Program after conducting an in-depth analysis of the company’s needs. The Ross Team analyzed assessment data and interviewed top STC executives to identify the critical capabilities required of future general managers. Based on information gleaned from the discovery process, Ross faculty and staff worked with STC to design a multi-year learning journey.

“To win in the marketplace, we must first win in the workplace,” said Ibrahim Balghonaim, Head of Succession Management at STC. “We are rigorous in identifying, selecting and aggressively developing high-potential leaders that will provide STC with the required leadership capability in the years ahead. While the ASHRM award is a wonderful recognition of STC’s efforts so far, we plan to do even more in the coming years to develop leaders for the future.”

“The HiPo program demonstrates STC’s exceptional commitment to growing leadership talent and driving digital transformation in KSA,” said Gene Mage, Managing Director of Custom Programs for Michigan Ross.  “While every company talks about putting employees first, STC actually does it. As a result, they have become a global best-practice organization for talent management and cultural transformation.”

About STC’s HiPo Leadership Program
Currently, 37 Cohort 2 high potential STC employees are participating in the HiPo Leadership Program with 39 Cohort 1 participants having completed the program effective December 2018.  The goal of the program is to develop “adaptive” leaders with the mindsets, strategies and skills to lead the digital transformation of the telecommunications industry and be effective General Managers at STC.  The program has been designed to align with STC’s “DARE” strategy, digital leadership competencies and corporate values as an overarching context. Prior to joining the program, participants receive an objective assessment of their strengths and development needs. Once in the program, they create individual development plans while working with an executive coach. The curriculum includes executive education classes, company visits, action learning projects, and executive speakers from top companies such as Dow Jones, Oracle, Microsoft, Qualcomm, SAP and others.
