Oman has renamed the Public Authority for Civil Aviation as Civil Aviation Authority and brought under the new authority the climatic affairs from the Directorate General of Meteorology attached to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs.

As per a royal decree issued by Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, all employees of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs will be transferred to the Civil Aviation Authority and will retain their financial grades.

Climatic affairs specializations shall be transferred to the Civil Aviation Authority from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, the decree stated without specifying the purpose.

Last week, Oman issued a decree expanding the mandate for the Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) to include gas transmission and renamed it as the Authority for Public Utilities Regulation. All laws pertaining to the transport of natural gas will now come under the fold of the Authority for Public Utilities Regulation.

The move is part of Oman's plans to overhaul the gas transmission sector whereby Oman Gas Company will be the sole independent gas transmission system owner and operator with the ability to raise its own finances for expansion projects.
