Green Globe has awarded Mövenpick Hotel & Apartments Bur Dubai a Gold status for its five consecutive years of certification.

Over the years, Mövenpick Hotel & Apartments Bur Dubai has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and responsible practices on multiple levels towards core sustainability programmes. As a result, the hotel was certified by Green Globe for five consecutive years with a commendable compliance score of 83% and given a Gold status.

Around the clock, the engineering department led by Awan Nazir, Chief Engineer at Mövenpick Hotel & Apartments Bur Dubai, has continuously developed the "Green Wrap" technology, which is an adiabatic cooling system, in order to fit the hotel's existing chillers. The engineering team built and installed this system to shield and protect the chillers against sandstorms and high temperature. Moreover, the Green Wrap cooling system helps in regulating the temperature of the chillers by allowing small drops of water to drip in order to create a cool, surrounding atmosphere. Since the installation of this system, our engineers managed to reduce 738,267 KWH, 465,846 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) by the end of 2015 and saved more than AED 332,220 on electricity bill.

Last year, the hotel managed to save around 106,987KWH, which equals to 67.5 tons of CO2 by implementing the Green Wrap technology on the chillers and adding more LED lights with motion sensors along the hotel's corridors. Also, as part of Mövenpick Hotel & Apartments Bur Dubai's sustainability programme and social activities, the hotel increased the green landscaped area to 353 sqm, by adding more plants and grass around the hotel to help reduce CO2 emissions.
