• ADSW 2019 hailed as the most successful yet, with US$11 billion in business deals announced

Abu Dhabi: Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, has honoured the sponsors and partners of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2019, the largest sustainability gathering in the Middle East.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, paid tribute to the organisations that  partnered with and sponsored this year’s ADSW, which is held annually in January.

“Each of us shares the same passion to deliver on the sustainability objectives of the United Arab Emirates and to uphold the vision of our nation’s founding father Sheikh Zayed to convert aspirations into concrete decision-making, to transform innovative thinking into progress on the ground and to forge a better and more sustainable way of life for future generations,” Al Ramahi said during his speech at Masdar’s suhoor reception, held at Rixos Saadiyat Island.

“Thanks to the vision of the UAE leadership and with your unwavering support, ADSW has successfully positioned itself at the heart of sustainability and clean energy. It has helped to give others the confidence to announce bold targets, to invest, and to engage the wider community in addressing our shared sustainability challenges, not only business and government decision-makers, but also our future sustainability leaders.”

ADSW brings together policymakers, industry specialists, technology pioneers, future sustainability leaders and members of the local community to shape the global sustainability agenda. Through its initiatives and events, which include the Zayed Sustainability Prize, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly, Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum, WFES, Youth 4 Sustainability, CLIX Innovation Exchange, and the Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER) forum, ADSW is committed to the sharing of knowledge, implementation of strategies and the delivery of real-world solutions to drive human progress.

During ADSW 2019, business deals worth an estimated US$11 billion were announced, while it attracted 38,000 attendees from 170 countries and 850 exhibiting companies.

Also speaking at Masdar’s suhoor reception, Dr Lamya Nawaf Fawwaz, the Executive Director of Brand and Strategic Initiatives, said: “As part of its growth, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week now goes beyond engaging government and businesses and extends to technology pioneers, young people and all members of the community. It is only by coming together and working towards a shared vision that we can deliver real and positive transformation. It is thanks to our key partners that ADSW is a success – and I am confident that through our partnerships, we will be able to deliver on our shared sustainability goals.”

ADSW 2020 will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from January 11 to 18.
