The first phase of Zubair Sewerage Project, located in Zubair City, Basra, is in the process of being transferred from the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities to the Ministry of Planning to enable the mega project’s inclusion in the governorate’s budget, a top government official said.

Abbas Maher Al-Saidi, Mayor of Al-Zubair City told Zawya Projects that transfer represents a major step towards the completion of the project.

He said the next step by the planning ministry would be to include the project within the governorate’s budget and commission new designs.

In April 2021, Zawya Projects had reported that the completion rate of Zubair Sewerage Project Phase 2 had reached 26 percent despite the Phase 1 getting stalled.

The report said the second phase is being implemented by the governorate since mid-2020 while first phase, under the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities, had stalled at 38 percent completion rate in 2013.

On Tuesday, Zawya Projects had reported that the planning ministry is prioritising strategic projects with direct impact on the life of the citizens.
