UAE participates in global conference of Institute of Internal Auditors in the US
Al Halyan: Internal audit assumes greater role for better corporate governance and economic development

Dubai: J. Michael Joyce Jr, the newly-elected Global Chairman of the Global Board of Directors of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) will be the keynote speaker during the 8th Chief Audit Executive (CAE) Conference organized by UAE Internal Auditors Association (UAE IAA) to be held on November 20 and 21, 2019 in Dubai.

“The presence of Mr Michael Joyce at the CAE conference will be a great recognition for the UAE IAA at a time when the association is witnessing increased membership. The forthcoming conference will be a great opportunity for internal auditors from the region, as the conferences consist of topics which are leading the profession today,” said Khalid Al Halyan, Vice-Chairman of UAE IAA.

Internal audit is assuming greater importance in better corporate governance and growth of the private and public sector companies which directly boost economic development of the country, he said.

Michael Joyce was elected as Global Chairman of the newly structured Global Board of Directors for 2019-20 during the organization’s annual business meeting which followed The IIA’s 2019 International Conference, held in Anaheim, California, US. International Conference attracted more than 3,000 people from around the world. Joyce presides over the first 17-member Global Board to take office under a new governance structure designed to ensure a modern, efficient, informed, and relevant body able to respond quickly to global developments. The board previously comprised 38 members.

A 40-member UAE delegation, headed by Khalid Al Halyan and Ali Al Muwaijei, attended the 2019 International Conference in the US.

The UAE delegation had a meeting with Michael Joyce and presented him with a memento on behalf of the Association, which was the first to congratulate him on his election. They requested him to be the keynote speaker during the CAE conference in Dubai.

UAE IAA, a non-profit organisation of internal auditors, was set up in 1995 and is affiliated with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the internal audit profession’s most widely recognized advocate, educator, and provider of standards, guidance, and certifications, with 200,000 members from more than 190 countries and associations. The UAE accounts for about 45% of the total number of internal auditors working in the region, estimated at about 7,000 auditors, of which 22% are Emiratis.
The CAE Conference is the much sought after meeting of the UAE Internal Auditors Association (UAE IAA). The CAE conferences are specifically designed for chief audit executives to enhance their professional development and share knowledge with peers. These events are a great opportunity to share best practices, discuss hot topics, and network with others.

UAE IAA’s conferences offer a great opportunity to network with industry leaders, some of whom are pioneers in the field of internal audit. The earlier conferences have been graced by the Who's Who in the business from all over the world.

Internal audit is assuming greater importance in better corporate governance and growth of the private and public sector companies which directly boost economic development of the country, members of the UAE Internal Auditors’ Association (UAE IAA) were told.
