KUWAIT CITY, June 23: Ministry of Interior has started implementing the recommendations of a committee that was formed to carry out a comprehensive study on the conditions of expatriates who have been detained for deportation and are on the waiting list, reports Al-Rai daily.
The committee, which is headed by Public Prosecutor General Mohammad Rashed Al-Duaij, recommended that Syrians and Yemenis, who are in deportation centers, should be deported only after the situation in their countries stabilizes. It is worth mentioning that some of the detained expatriates of Syrian and Yemeni nationalities were exempted from immediate deportation due to the circumstances in their countries.
According to a reliable source, there are 85 Syrian expatriates who have been detained for deportation and will benefit from these recommendations. Some of them will obtain an opportunity to remain in the country for one month and be released under sponsorship of Kuwaiti citizens.
During that month, the expatriate should amend his status by either getting a new sponsor or transferring his residency; otherwise, he will be deported by the end of the month. As per the decision issued by Ministry of Interior in November 2017, all Syrian violators of law were released from Talha Prison even though decisions were issued for deporting a large number of them. They were released after Kuwaiti sponsors had assured to rectify the status of the detainees within one month.
However, only ten of these Syrians had rectified their status while the rest of them vanished and did not fulfill their commitments. As a result, the Kuwaiti sponsors were punished by suspending the residencies of their employees for a period of one year. Arrest warrants have been issued against 40 Syrian violators who did not fulfill their commitments, and they will be deported as soon as they are arrested
