DHL Middle East has been awarded 'Top Employer' certification for the second consecutive year. This international distinction rewards quality in human resources management DHL Express centres in the region that earned the honours include UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

DHL has also won the overall global award as it is one of five companies worldwide to get this recognition, which is awarded to companies that get all three continental/regional awards. DHL far surpassed other applicants and was awarded in all 6 regions defined by Top Employers.

The company employs nearly 77,000 people across the world and operates in 220 countries and the company's vision stresses that it wants to be the logistics provider people turn to as their first choice not only for all their shipping needs, but also as an employee or investor.

'Top Employer' status is only handed to companies that demonstrate the highest standards of excellence in employee conditions. The 'Top Employers Institute', which carries out the auditing, reserved special praise for DHL Middle East's approach to talent management strategy, training and skill development, and corporate culture.

There are nine criteria which include: Talent Strategy, Workforce Planning, and On-boarding, L&D, Performance Management, Leadership Development, Career and Succession Planning, Compensation & Benefits, Culture

Nour Suliman, CEO Middle East and North Africa at DHL, commented: "To be named Top Employer for the second consecutive year is a true testimony to the success of our Human Resources approach. We understand how important is the hard work and dedication of our people, and have continuously worked to provide them the best conditions and create an environment that nurtures talent, and rewards performers."

In-depth examination of nine themes

To receive 'Top Employer' certification for the second year in a row, DHL Middle East human resources management was examined in detail. Nine separate themes were addressed: talent management strategy, workforce planning, employee integration, training and skill development, performance management, leadership development, career and succession management, remuneration and benefits, and corporate culture.

Following an independent audit, ratings were given by comparing the investigation results with an international standard. Like DHL Express, only employers reaching the required standard of excellence have been awarded certification.

A range of initiatives to guide employees

DHL is always encouraging its employees to develop their potential through various training and development opportunities, with the CIS (Certified International Specialist) programme a key element of the HR strategy. The aim of the programme is to enhance employee knowledge of the changing international economic environment and the basic principles of international shipping, to ensure that everyone, regardless of their role within the company, is in a position to advise and guide customers in their international exchanges. It has been adapted to each area of the company, including operations and customer service. A specific module on management leadership has also been rolled out. CIS is much more than a simple training programme. With CIS, DHL has developed a corporate culture common to all employees around the world, alongside motivation, commitment and the pride of belonging.

All employees also have access to guidance to help their progression within the company. The DHL performance management system entails the yearly assessment of technical and behavioural skill and the identification of potential talent (careers committees/panels) in order to draw up individual and group development plans.

"This international certification serves, in my view, as an official recognition of our talent strategy, workforce planning, culture and leadership development. Our main driver of success lies in the first pillar of our focus strategy: Motivated People. The company invests in its "Respect and Results" culture, growing a sense of community among employees, fostering a culture of recognition and making employee engagement a daily priority." said Henry Fares, Vice President of Human Resources, Middle East & North Africa, DHL.

DHL has been a pioneer in the Middle East logistics industry for more than 38 years and currently has 220 service centers and service points across 19 countries in the region and employs over 4,400 employees across the Middle East. Through its innovation, service excellence and commitment, DHL continues to offer customers superior logistics solutions.
